Claude Code
Anthropic's agentic coding tool that works in your terminal.
What it does
Why it matters
Claude Code proved that the terminal — not the IDE — might be the natural home for coding agents. No GUI to learn, no editor lock-in: it operates on files, runs your test suite, reads the failures, and tries again. It turned "agentic coding" from a demo into a daily workflow for a lot of engineers.
Engineering notes
- Plan mode before code mode. The standout interaction: ask it to plan first, review the plan, then execute. Human judgment gates the expensive step.
- CLAUDE.md as configuration. Project-specific instructions live in a markdown file the agent reads every session — context engineering as a first-class feature.
- Tool use over text. It doesn't just suggest commands; it runs them, reads output, and adjusts. The loop is the product.
Limitations
- Token costs scale with codebase size — large repos mean large context bills.
- It's only as good as your project's documentation; undocumented codebases get confident guesses.
- Requires comfort with the terminal; GUI-first developers face a learning curve.

Prompt, run, edit, and deploy full-stack apps in the browser.
StackBlitz's Bolt turns a text prompt into a working full-stack application — running live in the browser via WebContainers, editable in a real IDE, deployable in one click.
Lovable
Turn a sentence into a full-stack app with database and auth.
Lovable generates complete applications — frontend, Supabase backend, auth — from natural language. The standout in the prompt-to-app wave for how complete the generated products feel.

Generate UI with prompts, from the makers of Next.js.
Vercel's v0 turns text descriptions into working React components with shadcn/ui and Tailwind. The fastest path from 'I need a landing page' to deployable UI — and a glimpse of generative UI as a primitive.
